Madhuri was born to a middle-class Marathi-Brahmin family.
She started learning dance at the age of 3 and received many awards for her Kathak dance in her younger days.
Though she was a top-line model in India before entering Bollywood, it took her 8 years to get a commercial breakthrough in the form of the film Tezaab (1988).
Her song in the same film “Ek Do Teen” was a total chart-buster and is still considered among Bollywood classics.
She met her husband Dr. Sriram Nene, a UCLA cardiovascular, through her brother.
In 2014, she was appointed the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in India.
She is the only Bollywood actress to have been nominated 13 times for the Film-fare Best Actress Award.
She is a passionate dancer, still practices Kathak dance thrice a week and has opened an online dance academy in 2013 called “Dance With Madhuri.”
She has a fear of Cockroaches.
She is trained in Taekwondo.
If not an actress, she would have been a microbiologist or a pathologist.
